    The AHA talks to real people who tried to help, and real emergency room staff. They change the recommendations based on what works. People who needed CPR weren't getting it because the helper wasn't positive they didn't feel a heartbeat. It's safer to err on the other side. People were afraid of not pushing hard enough, so were being ineffective. It's better for most people to overdo it. And, yes, ribs and cartilage breaks. We were warned to expect that. Yes, with breathing is better, especially if the original problem is lack of air, such as with drowning or asphyxiation. However, circulating the oxygen that is still in the blood is better than nothing, especially if you don't have energy to do both. (CPR with breathing is hard!) It's still best to take a class and keep up to date. They change the instructions as they learn more. The instructor can help you adapt if you can't do it the normal way. A class will also include legal issues. In most jurisdictions, do your best at the time. That's better for them than doing nothing. The class will cover consent and relative risk. Many groups will also support you in court, even if, in the moment, you can't remember everything you were taught.

    You're not supposed to be trying to push the heart through the back of the rib cage. If you hear cartilage, ribs or a sternum cracking/breaking you're obviously applying far to much pressure than required to make the heart pump blood and/or applying pressure in the wrong location.

    Please people, Check first if the person is breathing and check for a pulse. We don't want to crush peoples ribs when actually they are just unconscious because of a low blood sugar level. This video needs to be corrected.

      The video is correct. This is hands only CPR and you don't check a pulse or breathing. The AHA website has more information on this.

    I believe you should first check airway, give two breaths while checking pulse and then after that you should begin compression if the pulse is absent especially with toddlers.

    Isn't there some weird liability law in California where you can actually be sued if you attempt to rescue someone and they don't survive? I've heard that that's actually prevented people from wanting to help, sadly.

    antes de iniciar las compresiones es necesario revisar la vía aerea, si esta comprometida y tiene a su vez un paro cardiaco, es indudable realizar las compresiones torácicas =)

    What if u press in the wrong place and crush their ribs. How do I know where the center is. I need to practice on a live person to actually learn. I never learn by watching. I only learn by doing it myself. But if someone was knocked out, I'd still try, but I don't wanna get yelled at later if I did it wrong and the guy still dies.

    Bueno, definitivamente si criticas el video es porque no estas actualizado o eres un dinosaurio y prefieres criticar en vez de aportar. El RCP solo con las manos esta diseñado para el respondedor LEGO, además que si te preocupa la oxigenación recordemos que la idea de permitir que el pecho se expanda es para que la caja torácica haga su función y pueda entrar un mínimo de aporte de oxigeno por presión negativa y positiva. Eso es en adulto en niño cambia las cosas por que generalmente se presenta el paro respiratorio y necesita mayor aporte de oxigeno que el adulto, pero el solo dar compresiones salva vidas.

    • @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas
      @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas 10 лет назад

      jose scott Tienes razón en parte, pues a este video le falta el primer paso que es verificar si la persona está insconsciente y no respira (o respira con dificultad), pero en este protocolo para legos no se toman constantes vitales, es decir el PULSO no se debe tomar. Lo dice tanto la AHA como la ERC. Saludos!

    • @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas
      @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas 10 лет назад

      jose scott Si eres testigo del colapso de una persona lo primero que debes hacer es verificar si esta persona está consciente y respira, de ser así no requiere RCP, pero si esta persona no está consciente y NO respira (respiraciones efectivas) entonces es imposible que tenga sus constantes vitales "bien", no hace falta tomar pulso ni medir otras constantes porque el RCP es prioritario y se requiere su aplicación inmediata, cualquiera que sea el protocolo que uses. En protocolos anteriores se debía verificar que la persona tuviese circulación (pulso) pero esto se ha descartado debido a que para muchos rescatistas, en especial legos, no es fácil medir correctamente esta constante vital. Saludos.

    • @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas
      @CarlosAntonioMenesesSalinas 10 лет назад

      jose scott El protocolo es así es porque detrás hay médicos, científicos y estadistas que luego de estudiar y analizar los casos de las diferentes sociedades medicas que lo conforman determinan cuales son los pasos a seguir en determinada actuación que tengan mayor probabilidad de éxito. Es por ello que NO se toma el pulso. Con solamente ver que la persona está inconsciente y NO respira deducimos que tiene un paro cardio respiratorio... Hay que verificar rápidamente que efectivamente la persona NO responde a ningún estimulo y NO respira (no tiene respiraciones efectivas) tomar el pulso en este momento sobra y por eso se debe iniciar el RCP de inmediato. Estamos hablando de un RCP básico, del que te encuentras por la calle sin equipos. Con el RCP NO le haces daño a nadie, al contrario, estás dando mayores probabilidades de que supervivencia a alguien. vas a esperar un monitor para decidir hacer un RCP? tendrás un paciente muerto. Que puede que te equivoques y en realidad no esté inconsciente? a la primera compresión se despertará. Que le puedes provocar una arritmia? es mejor que tenga una arritmia a que el corazón haya dejado de latir y no hagas nada. Revisa tus protocolos de SBV, no es tán complicado. Saludos

    You should probably check the latest AHA guidelines. From what I've read the recommendation for untrained bystanders is to just try to wake them and if they're not obviously breathing then just do compressions, exactly as depicted in this video. Trained non-professionals might give breaths, but would not check for a pulse. Trained professionals check for a pulse for up to 10 seconds, and if they don't find one by then they are supposed to assume that there isn't one. I'm not a doctor...

  • @joshh3366

    I'm an ER nurse. If you see someone down, please DO NOT START CHEST COMPRESSIONS. First, try to wake the person who is down. No response? Call 911 then check the carotid pulse (put 2 fingers between the adams apple and neck muscle). No pulse? begin compressions. Has a pulse? Check breathing. Not breathing? provide mouth to mouth rescue breaths every 6-8 seconds. Recheck pulse every 2 minutes until ambulance arrives.

    • @schladmingman
      @schladmingman 7 лет назад

      If you're an ER nurse....or a paramedic, or a doctor, or other professional, then YES. BUT, this is not what we're talking about here. Hands-only CPR is compressions only and was developed for lay responders who would otherwise just stay away. I'm sure you'd agree that "some CPR is better than no CPR," right? Well, do some checking and you'll see that this method does not replace compressions and breaths (which are still taught in basic CPR classes), nor does it replace checking respiration and pulse (for professionals). Something for everyone, okay?

    Para los que critican: Este video es para enseñarle RCP a los reanimadores legos. Actualícense, además hace rato ya que está obsoleta la búsqueda de pulso. Lo recomendado ahora es buscar respuesta y respiración normal; si la víctima no responde no está consciente, y si no respira normalmente REQUIERE RCP. A pesar de sus críticas, suele ser mejor dar RCP a alguien que no la requiere y no retrasar la RCP de alguien que sí la requiere.

    Well, my son and I were shopping a couple years ago, and we were waiting in line to check out. He was standing behind me and said, "I'm not feeling so well" . I said maybe you should sit down, I turned to talk to the cashier. Literally less than 1.5 seconds--- It sounded like someone dropped a 2X10 lumber flat on the floor. He had keeled over backward..no warning. There was no symptom... He had sever dehydration. First thing was check for breathing and pulse. Don't Assume!

  • @cobaltblue1975
    @cobaltblue1975 11 лет назад

    Dehydration has noticeable precursors, warning signs that lead up to the event of collapse. So do most things. Someone suddenly collapsing is a strong indicator of a sudden loss of blood flow to the brain. So the most probable thing, keeping in mind you only have seconds to react before the chance of saving the person starts to greatly diminish; is that they are having a heart attack. Most people including myself aren't doctors, so basic, short, and memorable beats nothing.

    Actually checking the pulse is obsolete. Airway is more important. Think about a situation where the victim just collapsed. If he isn't breathing (brain-damage, aspiration etc.) he might still have a pulse for some time but due to the o2 insufficiency not for long. Additionally, it takes at least 10 seconds to evaluate the pulse properly (my experience as a paramedic). Time that someone with no medical training should spent on cpr ;)
